Blackwood Gospel Quartet -- Live In-Concert
Friday, March 5 -- 6:30 PM
Location: Sanctuary

The Blackwood Gospel Quartet

The original Blackwood Brothers Quartet was formed in 1934 in the hills of Mississippi. Their dedication and effort to spread the Gospel in song has left a great heritage.  Since that early formation, the group has won countless awards, sung thousands of concerts, and appeared on many television shows.  The dedication of the original Blackwood Brothers continues today through the hearts and lives of the Blackwood Gospel Quartet. They still sing the traditional close harmony quartet style music the Blackwood’s are famous for.

Legacy Five -- Live In-Concert -- BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!
Wednesday, April 28 -- 6:30 PM
Location: Sanctuary

Legacy Five Southern Gospel Quartet

Legacy Five, widely acclaimed gospel quartet, is returning to Pleasant Grove Community Church at 6:30 PM Wednesday, April 28.  With 18 albums to its credit, Legacy Five offers a wide variety of styles.  And whether it’s a toe-tapping, hand-clapping lively tune, or a lilting ballad, the musicianship of the group shines – a fact borne out by the numerous awards the group has garnered.  These include favorite group, as well as individual honors as favorite singers.

Long-time gospel music fans will recall that Legacy Five came to be after the retirement of the well-known Cathedral Quartet.  Former Cathedral’s baritone Scott Fowler, and pianist Roger Bennett formed Legacy Five in 2000.  Fowler is now the group’s lead singer and business manager.  Other members include Frank Seamans, tenor; Scott Howard, baritone; and Glenn Dustin, bass.  Tim Parton replaced Roger Bennett as pianist after Bennett’s untimely death from leukemia in 2007.

Legacy Five is in continual demand, and travels from coast to coast.  “We are extremely fortunate to have a group of this caliber minister to us locally,” says Robyn Blair, the church’s minister of music.  “We invite the community to come and enjoy a wonderful evening of music with us.”

Joyous Brass

Sunday -- May 16-- 6:30 PM -- Sanctuary

Joyous Brass is a British style brass band that was organized in the spring of 2001 to provide a unique musical fellowship for Christian brass musicians. Each member is a volunteer and freely gives of his or her time and talent for the ministry of the band. Membership is comprised of musicians from several churches in the Sacramento area.

The mission of Joyous Brass is to be an emissary of Jesus Christ through the performance of spiritually inspired music. It is our prayer that those who listen to the band will understand and be blessed by the message of God's love through His music.

Joyous Brass has also featured several guest soloists, composers and conductors including Stephen Bulla (Chief Arranger for the President's Own Marine Band and White House Orchestra), Herb Bruce (trombone recording artist and soloist with the Spiritual to the Bone trombone ensemble) and Steve & Barbara Allen.

The band plays a wide variety of music including compositions for brass band, classical transcriptions, gospel, Americana, jazz, traditional hymns, Christian contemporary songs, marches etc.
