Emergency Assistants Group is trained and ready

CPR Class

CPR Class
Pastor Ron MacDonald plays the part of the patient, as instructor Mike Bradley shows a positioning technique, and Norma Westcott observes.

Wanda Deaton
Wanda Deaton demonstrates breathing assistance techniques.

Members of the Emergency Assistants Group, usher captains, and staff participated in a first aid/CPR class on November 6. With a paramedic as instructor, they learned setup, injury and illness assessment skills; rescue breathing; and management of choking, bleeding, and shock.

The Emergency Assistants Group, with Wanda Deaton as facilitator, has set up protocols and procedures to be available during worship services at PGCC. They are ready to assist in the event of a sudden illness or injury. Working closely with them are the ushers, who will assist with crowd control and other tasks, as needed.

Members of the Emergency Assistants Group are Mary Ann Burgess, Wanda Deaton, Lea Grow, Virginia Pennelly, Sally Jo Rapstad, Yvonne Skelton, Helen Tobiason, Norma Westcott, and Betty Williams. Usher captains who took the first aid/CPR course are Bill Brooks, Roy Friedrichs, Russ Heffelfinger, and Larry Lovato. Attendees from staff were Pastor Ron and Natalie MacDonald and Barbara Latter.

Even though the fire station with paramedic help is nearby, worshipers should feel more secure knowing that immediate help is available as well. As this story is being written, word has come that PGCC will be the recipient of a Heartstream defibrillator. Watch for the story in next month’s newsletter!
