April 2001
Is PGCC going to the dogs?
You’ve seen her on the platform each Sunday
– Sally Simcoe’s companion dog, Shelby,
who has become a fixture of our choir. She also has prompted a number of
questions: What does she do for Sally? Why does she come to church? What is a
service dog? Who trained her? How long will she work for you? Can I pet
her/play with her?
Whether you have had these questions or are
just interested in learning about assistance dogs, you won’t want to miss
this opportunity. On Sunday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m., Sally and Shelby will
present a program about assistance dogs, specifically the Canine Companions
for Independence (CCI) program. Following a video presentation, Shelby will
show how she helps Sally and will demonstrate proper “assistance dog
etiquette.” They will be joined by several golden retriever puppies and the
people who raise them, who will explain the CCI raising and training process.
There will be plenty of time for questions.
Refreshments will be served following the demonstration.
Please note that an introductory video regarding
CCI is available in the Church Library.
