Pastor’s Communiqué:

“Into His Harvest Field!”

Pastor Doug Peebles
Pastor Doug Peebles

“Then He (Jesus) said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.’ ” [Matthew 9:37-38]

I’ve found myself praying this prayer several times over the past weeks. The primary reason for this is because of the transition we are in regarding all of the new staff positions that we are seeking to fill.

Let me update you on several things we’ve been doing to fill the need we have on our staff. First of all, some of you may not know that Al Enos graciously offered his services on a temporary and unpaid basis to work as our Office Supervisor. This has been a tremendous help for us and I thank God for this provision. Having Al work out some of the new details of this job has been very beneficial. When we are ready to fill this position, Al will help us train our new member of the team. The Office Supervisor, a fulltime position, should be filled in the month of March.

As we studied the church’s needs, it was agreed that caring for both the building and grounds requires ongoing supervision. The former Church Administrator position has been divided into two more focused positions. The first is Building/Grounds Supervisor, which will be a 24 hours-per-week job. As the Lord provides, we should be able to fill this job in the month of March, as well.

The Financial Secretary/Bookkeeper is the other half of the former Administrator’s position. We are asking the Lord to help us fill this 16 hours-per-week job during the month of March.

For the part-time position of Secretary, we are proposing that the Office Supervisor will want some input in the hiring process. So, we are aiming to fill this 12 hours-per-week position by the first two weeks in April.

As Barbara Latter retires June 1st, we are working toward having a new Minster of Music by the beginning of May so that a good transition can take place. This is something that requires all of our hearts in prayer. Would you join the Elders and staff in praying that this would be a smooth and God-honoring transition? I want to assure you that we will honor our heritage – our roots, as I often say. We will continue to set a pattern of worshiping with music that is sing-able, that has a clear message and that is not piercing to the ears.

Many of you have shared with me lately that PGCC has been such a blessing to you, and the care that is demonstrated here is amazing. Let’s ask God to keep working like that as we face these next several months.

With a grateful heart,
Pastor Doug

On Thursday, March 20 at 9:30 AM, we again will have our “Baby Shower.” A representative from the Sacramento Life Center, Roseville Clinic, will be speaking. All women are cordially invited to attend and share in the excitement and fun of opening all those packages with items for the little ones. Details are provided in Sunday bulletins.

VALENTINE LUNCHEON – On Friday, February 8 we hosted 140 single and alone ladies for our annual Valentine Luncheon. We were pleased that this was a significantly larger number than in previous years. It was a wonderful day with great food, a wonderful musical program, and door prizes.

Men’s Ministries

“Give unto others as God has given unto you.”

Men’s MinistryOn January 30 our men were pleased to have Paul Wright share his personal journey. Among the experiences Paul shared with us was a harrowing incident — that of surviving a plane crash in which the pilot and his wife were killed. Paul has been on mission trips, involved in Christian education, and survived a recent serious heart attack. Paul is a real Christian survivor and an appreciated member of our congregation. Well done, Paul! Following Paul’s talk, the men thoroughly enjoyed an excellent lunch catered by Jan and Ben Whaley. We thank them, too.

On March 5, Rev. Kim Nelson, a Presbyterian minister in San Francisco, will share his ministerial and life experiences. Dr. Nelson is the son of our members Darrell and Ginny Nelson. We look forward to hearing from him.

Missions . . . What’s new?

Missions . . . What’s new?"Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere.” Jesus…
[Mark 16:15 NLT]

The Missionary outreach of PGCC is a deeply rooted core value. We currently partner with eleven missionaries throughout the world. We serve as financial and prayer partners with a variety of ministries — from local church planting to assisting with HIV and AIDS patients in Nigeria, Africa.

COMING EVENT

On Sunday July 13 we will be holding a Missionary Faire before and after each service. We are inviting all of our missionaries to either attend or provide us with a current DVD so that we can better understand and assist them in their ministry outreach. Displays will be available so that you can better acquaint yourself with our Missionaries and their ministries.

What’s up with the Flocks?

Flock MinistryWHEN TWO BECAME ONE

Our Flocks have undergone a period of reorganization over the last six months and are now up and running, thanks to a lot of hard work performed by our GREAT FLOCK GROUP LEADERS. We even took two Flocks and combined them into one exciting Flock. They have selected the name “Faith Keepers” for their new Flock – rather catchy wouldn’t you say!

OVERHEARD IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Recently a Flock member was asked by a friend while they were playing tennis, if his Flock had any openings, and if so, could he and his wife join? The Flock member assured him there was plenty of room and invited his friend to come and visit. We are happy to report that they are now members of that Flock. Stories such as these are now becoming common here at PGCC. The message here is that Flock members are realizing the value and blessings of being in a Flock. They are experiencing the fact that being a member of a Flock is where strangers become acquaintances, acquaintances become friends and friends become family.

Being a member of a Flock is a great way to be part of PGCC’s mission:

  • Connecting people through fellowship

  • Deepening our spiritual journey through discipleship;

  • Engaging God through worship;

  • Blessing others through caring relationships; and

  • Impacting our world through outreach.

If you are not in a Flock but would like to be, please call the church and ask for Pastor Bill or Sharon Donaldson, and they will be glad to discuss this wonderful opportunity with you.

From the Library corner

From the Library cornerWe are pleased to announce that we have begun a large print section in our church library. It is a very small collection right now, but it will be growing. If you have need of large print books, stop by on Sunday morning and check us out. Also, if you have any large print books that would be appropriate for a church library, we would appreciate donations of additional books.

Music and drama planned for Good Friday Service

“Colors of Grace: Lessons for Lent”The Sanctuary Choir will present “Colors of Grace: Lessons for Lent” at 7:00 PM Friday, March 21 in the Sanctuary. The events of Thursday and Friday of Christ’s passion are studied in this choral and dramatic work.

From His Thursday evening Passover meal, through Friday’s dark hours on the cross, Christ continued to illuminate the Truth. Even in His final hours, the Teacher was showing us by example the greatest lessons of His ministry: Service, Obedience, Humility, and Forgiveness. These four lessons will be revealed in song, color and symbolism. The evening will conclude with communion.

Please join us for this service on one of the holiest days of the church year.

Music Department to say “Thank You for the Song!”

Music Department to say “Thank You for the Song!”On Sunday, May 18 at 3:00 PM, the Sanctuary Choir, Chancelaires and Grace Notes music groups will present a very special afternoon of music. The theme, “Thank You for the Song,” is a celebration of some of each group’s favorite anthems sung in the past ten years under Barbara Latter’s leadership.

Each group voted for their favorite numbers. “We have been able to arrange most of their top-rated anthems into a vibrant and meaningful concert,” Barbara says.

The congregation is encouraged to save the date and invite friends and family to enjoy this afternoon of music.
